On 22 October 2026 the 11 best-selling electric dehumidifiers we track on Amazon UK showed at least 9,800 sales in the past month between them. The £129.99 Pro Breeze OmniDry 12L led with 3,000+. We worked out what nine of them cost to run at the current energy price cap, using the power each listing states. The 12-litre models cost 3.6p to 6.2p an hour, and the biggest, a 25-litre AEOCKY, costs 10p.

We haven’t tested these dehumidifiers. Prices, power and extraction rates come from each Amazon UK listing, checked on 22 October 2026. Two best sellers are not in the cost table: a small 1,700ml model doesn’t state its wattage, and the Pro Breeze 20L lists 1,000W in its technical details, which doesn’t fit its own claim of 7p an hour. Electricity is priced at Ofgem’s cap for 1 October to 31 December 2026: 26.32p per kWh, the Direct Debit average.

Quick verdict

A 12-litre dehumidifier costs 3.6p to 6.2p an hour at the current cap, or about £9 to £15 a month if it runs eight hours a day. The MeacoDry Arete One uses the least power of the 12-litre models (136W) but costs £179.99. The NETTA 12L uses 170W and costs £99.99. The Pro Breeze 12L sells the most, with 3,000+ bought last month and a 4.6 rating from 4,807 reviews. The 23W mini models cost almost nothing to run because they remove very little water.

Amazon rounds its “bought last month” badge down, so 3,000+ means at least 3,000. The NETTA showed no badge on the day we checked. Prices change daily and the live price is the one on Amazon. Our dehumidifier price table lists all 11 models we track.

Litres per day are measured in warm, damp air

Extraction ratings come from tests in hot, humid conditions. The AEOCKY listing gives 25 litres a day at 35°C and 95% humidity, and 20 litres at 30°C and 80%. The Ateroll’s 16 litres is at 35°C and 90%. The small 1,700ml model is rated at 350ml a day at 30°C and 80%. The other listings don’t say how their figure was measured. A room at normal UK indoor temperatures is a lot cooler than 30°C, so expect less water than the rating.

Mini dehumidifiers remove very little water

The AROEVE draws 23W, so it costs 0.6p an hour or about 15p a day. Its listing rates it at 0.45 litres a day, and the 1,700ml model is rated at 350ml. A 12-litre model is rated at 27 to 34 times as much. The minis are sold for bedrooms, wardrobes and bathrooms. At under half a litre a day, we wouldn’t buy one to dry washing or to deal with a damp flat.

Dehumidifier or heated airer for drying washing?

Six of the nine listings mention a laundry or drying mode. A 200W dehumidifier costs about 5.3p an hour, close to the 6.1p of a 230W heated airer, and it takes the water out of the room as the washing dries. Our heated airer running costs guide compares the best-selling airers with tumble dryers. If you run both together, add the two hourly costs.

How to work out the running cost

Divide the wattage by 1,000 and multiply by your price per kWh. At the cap’s 26.32p, 136W costs 3.58p an hour and 380W costs 10.00p. Those are figures for running at full power. Models with a humidity setting, such as the Pro Breeze and the NETTA, switch off once the room reaches the level you set, so they don’t run flat out all day.

Some listings quote lower running costs than their wattage gives at the current cap. The Devola 12L says less than 5p an hour and the Devola with a carbon filter says 4.5p, but at 210W and 235W the cap gives 5.5p and 6.2p. The NETTA’s 4.5p matches its 170W.

Who should not buy one

  • Homes where the damp comes from a leak or a structural fault. A dehumidifier dries the air and leaves the cause in place.
  • Anyone expecting a 23W mini model to dry washing or a whole flat.

FAQ

How much does a dehumidifier cost to run per hour?

At 26.32p per kWh, the 12-litre models in our table cost 3.6p to 6.2p an hour. The 25-litre AEOCKY costs 10p and the 23W AROEVE mini 0.6p.

How much does it cost to run a dehumidifier all day?

Running at full power for 24 hours, the Pro Breeze 12L would cost about £1.26 and the MeacoDry Arete One about 86p. A model with a humidity setting switches off when the room is dry enough, so a real day usually costs less.

Is a dehumidifier cheaper to run than a heated airer?

Per hour they are close. A 200W dehumidifier costs about 5.3p and a 230W heated airer about 6.1p at the current cap.

Do mini dehumidifiers work?

They are rated at 0.35 to 0.45 litres a day in the listings we checked, against 12 litres for a 12-litre model. They suit a small space such as a wardrobe.
